Product Description

Acyclovir is antiviral medicine which inhibits the active stage of the replication of herpes virus.

Herpes virus can be in the human cells for a long time and does not cause any symptoms. As soon as the protective function of the body are reduced, the cells will produce virus and the human will have the symptoms.

Acyclovir prevents the synthesis of the herpes virus in the cells during the reduction of the protective functions of the body and helps to improve the immunity for more stable resistance to the herpes virus.

In case of the regular use of Acyclovir for the purposes of the prevention of herpes virus, the frequency and intensity of the relapses are reduced, and the symptoms pass quickly.

The use of Acyclovir during the acute condition of the herpetic infection helps to accelerate the process of healing of the skin and mucous membranes, regeneration of the tissues, and to reduce itching and pain in the area of the rash.

Acyclovir provides a selective action and neutralizes only herpes virus despite a strong antiviral activity.

Directions for the use

  • treatment of infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Herpes simplex virus types I and II, both primary and secondary, including genital herpes

  • prevention of exacerbations of recurrent infections caused by virus Herpes simplex, in patients with normal immune status

  • prevention of primary and recurrent infections caused by Herpes simplex virus in patients with immunodeficiency

  • treatment of chicken pox

  • treatment of herpes zoster

In what dose is Acyclovir taken?

If you noticed the first symptoms of herpes such as light inflammation, redness of the skin, and local itching, it is necessary to start the use of Acyclovir right away.

  • 200 mg Acyclovir is prescribed 5 times per day within 5 days for the light form of the herpetic infection (herpes simplex type I and II)

  • Patients with immunodeficiency are recommended to start the treatment from the dose of Acyclovir 400 mg 5 times per day

  • In case of severe forms of the diseases caused by herpes virus (chicken pox, herpes zoster), the treatment is started from Acyclovir 800 mg 5 times per day within 5 days.

The length of the treatment can be longer, if the desired result is not achieved and the herpes symptoms are not reduced.

In case of the frequent acute conditions of the herpes symptoms (6-7 times per year), the preventive antiviral therapy should be started.

For the preventive purposes, Acyclovir is taken 200 mg every day within 6-12 months depending on the intensity of the virus.

The prolonged therapeutic course will help to arrest the activity of the cells which contain the passive herpes virus and reduce the probability of the multiple relapses.

Side effects of Acyclovir
