Cymbalta is a modern antidepressant which has been approved by FDA for the treatment of a depressive disorder. It contains the active ingredient Duloxetine.
According to the mechanism of action, Cymbalta is a balanced and strong serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. The medicine belongs to the antidepressants which similar to the carrier enzymes of serotonin and noradrenaline. Centeredness means an approximately similar compound of the carrier enzymes performing the reuptake of the indicated mediators.
The scientists add Cymbalta to antidepressants of the fifth generation; there are few of them on the pharmaceutical market. Unlike many other serotonin reuptake inhibitors, Duloxetine acts softly and has a good tolerance. It does not cause an intense medical addiction and dangerous side effects during the use in therapeutic doses.
As medical studies state, Cymbalta enhances a concentration of noradrenaline but it does not influence on the work of the cardiovascular system. There is no increased heart beat, or blood pressure during the use of the antidepressant. That is why, Cymbalta can be used by patients with mild diseases of the cardiovascular system.
Directions for the use
Usage and dosage of Cymbalta
The standard dosage of Cymbalta is 60 mg per day for the treatment of the depressive disorder. The capsules are taken once per day, in the morning, regardless of meals. Therapeutic effect develops within 1-2 weeks and the intensity of the antidepressive action is increased gradually. In 4-6 weeks, a patient will feel a significant improvement of semiotics of the depressive disorder.
In case of severe depressive disorders, Cymbalta 120 mg (1 capsule of Cymbalta 60 mg 2 times per day – in the morning and evening) can be used. After the improvement of the depression semiotics, the dosage is reduced up to the standard Cymbalta 60 mg per day.
There is no point to take more than 120 mg of Cymbalta per day because the antidepressive effect will not be increased but the additional load to kidneys appears (this organ takes part in the metabolism of Duloxetine).
Patients with renal failure are recommended to lower the dosage and take 30 mg of Cymbalta per day. In case of no side effects and a normal functioning of kidneys, the dose can be increased up to 60 mg per day.
The standard medical practice of the depression treatment offers the use of Cymbalta 60 mg within 12 weeks. However, the length of the treatment can be adjusted depending on the medical image of a patient.
Cymbalta can be contraindicated during maniac, suicidal states, frequent epileptic attacks, severe dysfunctions of liver or/and kidneys. It is necessary to consult a doctor.
It is contraindicated to take Cymbalta with alcohol and also other medicines/ingredients which provide a stimulating action to the central nervous system. It can cause the side effects and break the results of the treatment.
Cymbalta can cause sleepiness, and therefore patients taking this medicine should be cautious during driving and working with operating mechanisms.
The appearance of the side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, constipation, and low appetite do not require the termination of Cymbalta use. The side effects usually pass without any discomfort. After the end of the treatment, the side effects run their course completely.
