Nolvadex is a hormone medicine which prevents synthesis of estrogens and slows down the development of malignant neoplasms. It contains the active ingredient Tamoxifen which is an inhibitor of the estrogen receptors.
Protein substances which can interact with the female sexual hormones estrogens are often located on the cells of the malignant neoplasms. This interaction enhances the growth of the tumor cell, and so the processes of the development of the malignant neoplasms are accelerated. Nolvadex blocks these protein substances and selectively blocks the estrogen receptors reducing its synthesis in the tumor tissue. This way, the process of the formation of the cancerous tumor is slowed down and completely stopped.
The mechanism of the action of Nolvadex consists in the arresting of the growth of the cancerous tumor. It is not able to reduce the neoplasm or cause a disease regress. Due to this medicine, a patient’s lifetime can be increased, and an acute need of the surgery can be postponed.
Nolvadex blocks estrogen receptors, and so the synthesis of gonadotropin hormones is increased. Women who do not have ovulation or it is disordered, can take this medicine to restore ovulation and a menstrual cycle and to treat infertility.
Directions for the use
Nolvadex can be used during the development of the malignant tumor which is sensitive to the action of estrogen:
Nolvadex can be also used for other diseases which are caused by the excessive amount of estrogens in the body: infertility, oligospermia, gynecomastia in men.
Usage and dosage of Nolvadex
Before using Nolvadex, it is necessary to detect a sensitivity of tumor tissues to the action of this medicine. It is necessary to have a special test which will determine how sensitive the cancerous cells to hormones.
The treatment is stopped during the appearance of the disease progress when the cancerous cells are developed regardless of the estrogen concentration.
In the first 1-2 weeks of taking Nolvadex, a patient can have the side effects of the mild intensity: feeling of fever, flushes, general weakness, headache, spasms, sleepiness, dysfunction of the gastro-intestinal tract, and increased body weight.
