Usage of Valtrex

Most patients are prescribed a standard dosage of Valtrex except cases when there are acute or chronic dysfunctions of kidneys/liver.
To prevent genital herpes, a healthy sexual partner should take 500 mg of Valtrex once per day. The pills are taken every day within a year, if the sex is regular. In case of not regular sex, the treatment is started 3 days before the sexual intercourse.
To prevent viral infections during transplant of organs, patients are recommended to take Valtrex after surgery in the dose of 2000 mg 4 times per day. In this dose, Valtrex is taken under the supervision of a qualified physician.
Valtrex can be taken by adults and children over 12 years. The medical studies have not been conducted in children under 12 years, and therefore Valtrex is not prescribed this group.
